At The Heart of the Community

Makuri Development Forum (MDF)

Makuri Development Forum-CBO was formed in the year 2012 by a group of young professionals who were concerned by the declining education standards, lack of access to information, limited awareness on the various social economic issues and the weakening social fabric in the community. Inspired by the spirit of giving back to the community, the founders set the vision of MDF and chose to adopt a work with the people approach to solve the issues at hand. We continually engage the community members in working together towards improving their own lives, so that they are able to take charge and lead their own development agenda, mobilize existing local resources and invest them to meet both present and future development needs. The model continues to envisage an all-inclusive and participatory system for the people by the people. The forum has grown tremendously with the support of its leadership, local leaders and other organizations with similar aspirations.

Success Stories

We intend to progressively overhaul the current desks and replace them with modern learner friendly lockers. The project is underway with class eight and seven already done.
MDF embarked on a project to paint the walls of Makuri primary school to give them a clean and academic look. The project was done in November 2012. This was aimed at not only ensuring the school walls are beautiful but also educative.
This is a continuous project that seeks to encourage good performance among the pupils. It started with badges for the top performers in each class and subject but has now grown to include teachers' motivation, trophies, and academic trips. The award ceremony is done annually after the national examination results are announced.
